Block 1 9:00-11:25 | Ron Beinner BioRon Beinner is a long time photography editor, producer and creative collaborator. He spent over two decades with Vanity Fair magazine and currently works on a variety of visual projects in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. Crista Dix BioCrista Dix (She/Her/Hers) is the Executive Director at the Griffin Museum of Photography, assuming that role in January of 2022 after two years as the Associate Director. Before coming to the Griffin Museum in 2020 she spent fifteen years operating her own photography gallery, wall space creative, closing it in 2020 to make the move to New England and the Griffin. Having a career spanning many paths she has a background rooted in science, business and creative art. This well rounded experience provides a solid background for supporting the Griffin’s mission to encourage a broader understanding and appreciation of the visual, emotional and social impact of photographic art. Her gallery, wall space, supported emerging and mid-career artists with exhibitions, talks, events and art fairs around the country. As an internationally known gallery, Crista worked with clients all over the world and represented national and international artists. Dix has written essays about photography, introducing creative artists work to a broader community.Reviewer Preferences: Crista is open to seeing the work of emerging fine art photographers as well as motion video. Celine Grouard BioCeline Grouard is a New York-based photo editor where since 2013 she handles art direction and production of photo shoots for Fast Company magazine, as well as contributing to the Fast Company website. Her work for Fast Company has spanned a wide range of assignments—from assigning still life, portraitures, and conceptual photographs to handling event photography, and more. Prior to working at Fast Company she lived in the Bay Area and was a photo editor for Wired magazine. She has a keen eye for the medium and loves to have productive critiques that inspire artists. Peter Halpert BioPeter Hay Halpert is a private art dealer and curator, currently based in Vail, Colorado, following 30 years in NYC. As an art dealer he has specialized for 30 years in contemporary artists working with photography. Notably, he represented Ryan McGinley - the youngest artist ever to have a solo show at the Whitney Museum. The Metropolitan Museum, MoMA, ICP, the Whitney, the Guggenheim, the Getty, the MFA, Boston, SF MoMA, the MFA, Houston, the Centre Canadien d’Architecture, the Tate, and the Victoria & Albert Museum all collect work by the gallery’s artists. REVIEWER PREFERENCES: Peter is open to seeing motion video as well as the work of emerging photographers Carol Henry BioCarol Henry, formerly the gallery director at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California, curated an exhibition of 100 years of female photographers at The Center for Photographic Art and Florida Museum of Photography. She is founder of FotoSagá, women’s photography mentor program and is a charter member of Women In Photography International. With a passion for building community through photography, she is especially interested in non-traditional approaches to the medium and the work of female photographers. Hitomi Iwasaki BioHitomi Iwasaki is Head of Exhibitions and Curator at the Queens Museum, and has been a member of the Museum’s curatorial staff since 1996. She has worked on landmark exhibitions and has organized a number of group exhibitions and solo projects of emerging and mid-career artists Her most recent publications include Patty Chang: The Wandering Lake (2018; Queens Museum and Dancing Fox Press/New York) and The Panorama Handbook: Thoughts and Visions On and Around the Panorama of the City of New York (2018, Queens Museum).Reviewer Preference Hitomi is open to seeing motion video as well as the work of emerging photographers Maggie Kennedy BioMaggie Kennedy is the photography and visuals director at Garden & Gun magazine. Since the premiere issue in 2007, she has helped shape the visual identity of the G&G brand. Her work has been recognized with two National Magazine Awards in General Excellence by the American Society of Magazine Editors, American Photography and Photo District News. Emilia Mickevicius BioEmilia Mickevicius is the Norton Family Assistant Curator of Photography at the Phoenix Art Museum and Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona. In 2019 she received her Ph.D. from Brown University. Prior to beginning her current role, she worked in the Photography department at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, where she contributed to numerous exhibitions including "Sea Change: Photographs from the Collection" and "Kinship: Photography and Connection." Prior to Wine Spectator, she worked at Ladies’ Home Journal and TV Guide. Alex loves the creative process of working with photographers to hone their voice and vision to each story. Neil Binkley BioNeil Binkley is Founder of The Personal Photography Project, an archive for art producers, photo editors, and other creatives to source talent for assignments, or to license images. Prior to this, he co-founded the photography agency Wonderful Machine — raising its membership from a single photographer to over 500 photographers across the world.
